A fresh season, a fresh start.

The Dons soccer team status

By Andrew Fayez

The Dons have played five games so far; they won the first three which were Vs. Glendale, Apache junction, and Younker. Beating Glendale made our team really happy and boasted their morale because they beat the 3 rd best team in the season even though they played at Glendale’s home and continued their win streak for the first week of the season and became number 1.

Sadly in the second week where they played against Thunderbird and Arcadia they lost the two games. In the game against Thunderbird the Dons also had an injury and it was midfielder Hector Valentine (12) and they said that he won’t be playing till the end of the winter break. In the second game against Arcadia the Dos lost 3-2 in overtime but the over bad news is that central defender Alejandro Medina(12) was kicked out of the game by a red card and will not be playing for two games.

Even though all of this the Dons are confident that they can go to the state playoffs and it is not letting their morale go down and it is not stopping them from playing soccer all the time, “we always hang out together in the weekends and playing soccer and some of us are play in different soccer league, so then it becomes funny, when we play together on the school season and then against each other outside but we always have fun together and after all soccer is what makes us come together as friends”, says Goalie Emigdio Esquivel(11).

Q: How is the team doing right now?

A: “Right now we have many injuries with our starters like hector Valentine (12) and some of our defenders have been injured and been out with a red card, we also have started playing with a new formation which is 4-2-3-1 and we have to get use to it so we are a little worried for the moment.”

Q: What is your team next move right now?

A: “we are trying to make the players who are on the bench play better and relax because when they are in practice they are great but when they go to a real game they get nervous and we need to learn how to communicate with each other more and learn to keep passing the ball and not hog it, we also training on the new formation because it is a good formation but difficult to master in the begging but we are getting there.”

Q: What was your biggest surprise in the season till now?

A: “honestly that we could beat Glendale in their home and between their crowd and then losing to a team like Thunderbird or Arcadia even though we had many chances to score but we are going to try to not do this again.”

“Thank you for letting me have the chance to talk to you and good luck in the next game with Maricopa.”
